The Devil
- attachment
- shadow
- temptation
- bondage
- awareness
Against a solid black background a huge horned, bat-winged figure with a goat-like face and shaggy lower body crouches on a black block. An inverted pentagram floats above its brow. One hand is raised with the palm open, the other lowers a torch that burns downward. At the foot of the block stand a naked man and woman, each with small horns and a tail, one tail ending in flame and the other in a bunch of grapes. Chains run from the block to loose rings around their necks, and the loops are large enough to lift off.

- Fifteen reduces to six, the number of choice and relationship, but here as a pull toward the material; the card shows how desire and fear can bind attention to one narrow part of life.
चित्रका प्रतीक
- Horned, winged figureInstinct and appetite given a larger-than-life face; what we feed with attention grows monstrous when it is ignored or exaggerated.
- Inverted pentagramSpirit sunk beneath matter: the sense that the physical, the visible or the immediate has taken priority over deeper values.
- Loose chains around the necksThe bonds are real in feeling but not tight; they can be removed, which hints that the captives help keep themselves attached.
- Downward-pointing torchFire turned toward the ground, representing passion that burns the lower, unexamined appetites rather than lighting the way.
- Naked man and woman with horns and tailsThe human pair has taken on the Devil's features, showing how habit and fixation reshape a person; they echo the Lovers, with warmth turned into dependency.
- Flaming tail and grape tailDesire for intensity and indulgence, fire and fruit, the cravings that promise satisfaction and often demand more.
- Black background and blockA closed, windowless space in which no other option seems visible, the feeling of being unable to imagine a different arrangement.

सामान्यतया
The Devil asks you to look directly at whatever has a hold on you. It may be a habit, a person, a belief, a craving for comfort, status or intensity, or simply a story that says you have no choice. The chains in the image hang loosely, and that is the heart of the message: the bond is felt strongly, but awareness is the first step toward slipping it off. The card does not condemn desire; it reveals where desire has narrowed into compulsion or where fear has become a habit. Be honest rather than ashamed. Naming the pattern, understanding what it gives you and deciding what you want to keep returns the power to choose and loosens the grip.
प्रेम र सम्बन्ध
In love, the Devil points to powerful attraction that can slide into possessiveness, dependency, jealousy or a bond held together mostly by habit or fear. It can also be a frank acknowledgement of passion and physical chemistry. Ask whether each of you is free to choose to stay, and whether your needs are being spoken or only acted out.
पेसा
In a work context, this card describes golden handcuffs, overwork, status-chasing or staying in a situation mainly because of security or fear. It may also highlight a hidden ambition or an unhealthy dynamic with a boss. Ask which parts you chose and which you merely accepted, and where you could renegotiate.
पैसा
With resources, the Devil points to attachment around spending, status, debt or the pursuit of more. It invites a calm look at which habits you repeat to soothe a feeling, and which purchases or commitments reflect your values. This is an invitation to reflect on patterns, not a judgement of your finances.
व्यक्तिगत विकास
Growth comes from shadow work: bringing the hidden, shamed or disowned parts of yourself into awareness without self-attack. Track the situations in which you feel least free, and experiment with a small, deliberate change in one of them.
आध्यात्मिक
Spiritually the Devil represents the ego's attachments and the illusions that keep awareness narrow. Many traditions teach that seeing the bond clearly is already the beginning of liberation. Honest self-observation, rather than denial or guilt, is the practice here.
मनन गर्ने प्रश्न
What do I tell myself I cannot change, and what would I do first if I knew the chain were loose?
- release
- breaking free
- reclaiming power
- detachment
- facing the shadow
सामान्यतया
Reversed, the Devil often signals loosening. You may have recognised a pattern, begun to question a dependency, or finally begun to lift the ring over your head. The process can be uncomfortable: withdrawal from a habit, guilt about change, or the discovery of how much of your identity was wrapped around the bond. The card can also warn of the opposite trap, in which you deny a need or refuse to look at a pattern, so it simply goes underground and reappears sideways. Progress now looks like patient honesty, support from others you trust and small acts of independence, rather than one dramatic escape.
प्रेम र सम्बन्ध
Reversed, you may be stepping out of an unhealthy dynamic, setting a boundary or letting go of a jealous or controlling pattern. It can also be a time of clearer, healthier desire. Let yourself feel the wobble of change and seek support rather than slipping back out of habit.
पेसा
At work this may show a break from an exhausting role, a refusal to keep trading wellbeing for approval, or the first steps toward a more independent path. It can also warn of denial about how much a role has been costing you. Plan the next step practically and enlist trusted advice.
पैसा
Reversed, the card suggests loosening an attachment to spending, status or scarcity thinking, and building more conscious habits. Cravings may still come in waves. Small, measurable changes can help, and practical, qualified guidance is wise if your situation is complicated.
व्यक्तिगत विकास
The growth path is reclaiming power from the pattern step by step. Track triggers, create alternatives, and treat setbacks as information. Compassion toward yourself matters more than perfection.
अवरोध
The inner conflict is between the relief of being free and the comfort of what is known. Guilt, withdrawal and a fear of who you are without the attachment can pull you back toward the chain.
