The 'cow festival', a remembrance procession.

festivalPublic holidayPending expert review

About this festival

Families who lost a relative in the past year lead a cow (or a child dressed as one) through the streets of the Kathmandu valley, in the belief that the cow guides the soul. The day is also a tradition of satire and humour, meant to lighten grief.

How the date is decided

The day after Janai Purnima (the 1st tithi of the dark half of Bhadra).

The dates below always come from the calendar engine, never typed by hand.
