How Astavya calculates
What is computed, what is interpreted, and what we do not claim.
Planetary positions
Positions are computed with the open-source astronomy-engine library (MIT licence) and validated against NASA JPL DE421 reference positions to within a few arc-seconds. No AI is involved in any astronomical value.
Sidereal zodiac and ayanamsa
We use the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa by default (Raman, Krishnamurti and Fagan-Bradley are selectable). Every result states the ayanamsa value used.
Ascendant and houses
The ascendant is computed from sidereal time, latitude and the obliquity of the ecliptic. Houses default to whole-sign; equal, Sripati and Porphyry are available. Without a birth time we do not show an ascendant, houses or dasha.
Dashas
Vimshottari periods start from the Moon's nakshatra with a year length of 365.25 days. Periods are timing frames for reflection, not forecasts.
Bikram Sambat
BS dates use an official month-length table (currently verified for BS 1975–2090). Outside that range we say the date is unsupported rather than guess.
Festival dates
Festival dates come from documented tithi rules (sunrise, midday, pradosha or nishita observance) for Nepal. Where an official authority publishes a different date, an editorial date is shown and labelled.
The AI astrologer
The AI receives only calculated facts and approved rules. Its answer is checked against those facts; any degree, date or citation that cannot be verified is removed. You can always open “Why this answer?”.
Review status
Some rules depend on conventions that schools treat differently. Those are marked “pending advisor review” in every report until a qualified astrologer reviews them.
What we do not claim
We do not predict death, illness, wealth or marriage outcomes. Astrology here is a traditional language for reflection. It is not medical, legal, financial or psychological advice.
