Understand this calculator

What it does

Shows your Yogini dasha: a 36-year cycle of eight periods named for eight yoginis and ruled by planets, repeating through life.

Why it matters

It is an alternative timing system, popular in some regions, that some astrologers read alongside Vimshottari.

How it is worked out

  1. Add 3 to your birth nakshatra number and take the remainder after dividing by 8; this selects the starting yogini.
  2. Follow the cycle Mangala 1, Pingala 2, Dhanya 3, Bhramari 4, Bhadrika 5, Ulka 6, Siddha 7, Sankata 8 (36 years).
  3. The first period is shortened by the portion of the nakshatra already passed.

How to read your result

  • The bars show each yogini period; the cycle repeats every 36 years.

What it cannot tell you

A less standardised system: methods for the starting yogini and the balance differ by source. Astavya documents the adopted method.
