Understand this calculator

What it does

Compares two people's charts with the traditional eight-part Ashtakoota (Guna Milan) system and scores them out of 36, with each part explained.

Why it matters

It is the standard first step in arranged-marriage matching in Nepal and India. Seeing each part, rather than just the total, shows where the match is strong and where it is not.

How it is worked out

  1. Take each person's Moon sign and nakshatra.
  2. Score the eight kootas: Varna (1), Vashya (2), Tara (3), Yoni (4), Graha Maitri (5), Gana (6), Bhakoot (7) and Nadi (8), from fixed tables.
  3. Add them to a total out of 36; check classical cancellations and the Manglik indicator for both people.

How to read your result

  • The gauge shows the total; the bars show each koota's score against its maximum, with what it stands for.
  • 'Adjusted total' applies any traditional cancellations. Exceptions list why a score was adjusted.
  • The Manglik panel compares the two charts.

What it cannot tell you

A score is a convenient summary, not a verdict. No study has shown that Guna Milan predicts relationship outcomes, and traditional advice is to treat it as one input among many.
